The Entries tab

The Entries tab holds every story in your Keepsake project. How the chapters, counts, drafts, search and the question queue fit together.

Updated

The Entries tab is where every story in your project lives. You can see them all at once or one chapter at a time, find a story by its title, and start a new one. If you can write in the project, the question queue sits beside your stories too.

Open a project, then choose Entries in the row of tabs at the top.

The chapters

A row of chapters runs across the top. All chapters shows every story in the project. Choose a chapter to see only its stories. Each chapter shows how many entries it has, such as "4 entries". If there are more chapters than fit, use the arrows at each end of the row.

When you change chapter, any search or filter you set is cleared.

What the counts mean

Under the chapter's name, a line says how far the stories have come, such as "12 of 20 planned stories · 3 drafts" or "No stories in Childhood yet". Only finished stories count as stories here. Stories still being written are counted as drafts.

If you're a viewer, you'll see how many stories there are to read instead, such as "8 stories to read".

Drafts and finished stories

Each story's card has a label:

  • Draft: someone has started it but it isn't finished. A new story with nothing written yet is marked as a draft too, though the story itself says Not started until it has words or a photo.
  • Done: it's finished and goes into the book.

Drafts stay out of the book until they're finished. See Finish a story and Which stories go in your book.

Find a story

Type in Search by title to find a story by its title. The search looks at titles only, not the words inside the story. On a phone, choose the magnifying glass first.

To narrow the list, choose the filter button beside the search box, labelled Filter and sort. Under Status, choose All, Complete or Draft, or Not started when the chapter has empty stories. Under Sort by, choose Last edited, Date, Status or A-Z, then choose the order, such as Newest first. If nothing matches, choose Clear filters.

Search and filters only appear once the chapter has a story.

Start a story

Choose Start writing. A panel opens with the next questions in the queue and a Start from scratch option. See Start a story.

The question queue

On a computer, the question queue sits beside your stories, with two tabs:

You can drag the line between the two sides to make either one wider.

On a phone, or in a narrow window, choose Queue next to Start writing. The questions open in a sheet with the same two tabs.

Who sees what

Everyone in the project can open the Entries tab and read the stories, drafts included.

  • Writers, admins and the owner also see Start writing and the question queue.
  • The owner and admins can open a chapter's settings: choose the gear next to the chapter's name, or right-click its name in the row of chapters. See Create and organise chapters.
  • Viewers see the stories only, with no queue and no Start writing. To write, ask the project owner to make you a writer.

If the owner's plan has ended, everyone can still read, but Start writing is greyed out and the queue shows Writing is paused. See What happens if your plan ends.
