Real-Time Collaboration
See who's writing and watch stories come together in real-time. Learn how to collaborate effectively with family and friends on your Keepsake projects
Real-time collaboration works best with a stable internet connection. Look for the green "Connected" indicator at the top of your entry.
How Real-Time Collaboration Works
Look at the top of your entry to see who's actively working alongside you. Coloured avatars show anyone currently viewing or editing this entry, and you'll see exactly where others are typing or selecting text.
Check who's online
Look for coloured avatars or photos at the top of your entry showing who's currently here
Watch their cursor
See exactly where others are typing or selecting text with live cursor highlights
View live updates
Watch as they add photos, write stories, or format text in real-time
Monitor connection status
Check the green Connected indicator to ensure you're syncing properly
Connection Status
Your collaboration experience depends on having a stable connection. Look for the connection indicator at the top of your entry:
Connection Status Indicators:
- Connected - You're online and syncing perfectly
- Connecting... - Just establishing the connection
- Offline - Changes saved locally, will sync when you reconnect
Don't worry if your connection drops. Keepsake saves everything locally first, so you can keep writing and everything syncs automatically when you reconnect.
What You Can Do Together
Write different paragraphs
One person starts the story, another adds details without conflicts. Watch live typing appear as each keystroke happens.
Add photos simultaneously
Upload from different devices at the same time. Images appear for everyone the moment they're added.
Edit and refine together
Fix typos, add context, or elaborate on each other's memories while seeing all changes live.
Leave comments
Use the comments feature to discuss without changing the main text.
Tips for Smooth Collaboration
Coordinate Your Work
Use comments to say what you'll write about before diving into sections
Strong Connection Helps
Real-time features work best with cable, NBN, or strong WiFi rather than mobile data
Divide Sections
Work in different paragraphs or chapters to avoid getting in each other's way
Communicate Intent
Use comments to discuss plans rather than making assumptions about direction
Troubleshooting Collaboration
Make sure you're in the same project and entry, everyone has accepted their invitation, and your connection status shows green. Try refreshing the page if needed.
Check your internet connection and look for the "Connected" indicator. Make sure you're not in offline mode. Contact support if the problem persists.
If real-time collaboration feels chaotic, try scheduling different writing times, assigning specific chapters to individuals, or using comments to coordinate better.
Don't worry - you won't overwrite each other. Keepsake merges changes intelligently, but for smoother collaboration, try working in different paragraphs.
Everyone can upload at once! Photos appear in the order they finish uploading, and you can rearrange them afterwards using drag and drop.
