Hand a project over to someone
Make someone else the owner of your Keepsake project. You stay on as an admin, and only the new owner can hand it back.
Updated
You can make someone else the owner of your project, for example if they're taking over the book. You stay on as an admin. Only the owner can do this.
Before you start
- The new owner must already be in the project as an admin or a writer. To hand it to a viewer, change their role first: see Change someone's role or remove them. To hand it to someone who isn't in the project yet, invite them first: see Invite people to a project.
- The project runs on the owner's plan. After the hand-over, everyone writes under the new owner's plan. If they don't have an active plan, nobody can add or change stories until they start one. See Plans and prices.
- You can't undo it yourself. Only the new owner can hand the project back.
Hand it over
Open the project's settings
In the project, open the Settings tab. General opens.
Open Transfer ownership
Under Ownership, choose Transfer ownership.
Choose the new owner
Under New owner, choose the person.
Transfer it
Choose the button that names them, such as Transfer to Margaret.
Confirm
A popup asks you to confirm. Choose Transfer to Margaret again. You'll see Ownership transferred.
What changes
- The new owner can do everything an owner can, including deleting the project or handing it on. See Roles and what each person can do.
- You become an admin. You can still write, invite people and shape the book. You can also leave the project now: see Leave a project.
- The new owner gets a notification in Keepsake. They don't need to accept it.
- Everyone's stories, chapters and the book stay as they are.
If something's not right
- Transfer ownership is locked. Nobody in the project can take over yet. Only an admin or a writer can. Change someone's role in People & access first.
- The person isn't in the list. They're a viewer, or they haven't accepted their invitation yet.
- It says That didn't transfer. Check your connection, then try again.
If you set up a book as a gift, the choice you made about who looks after it is different from this. See Accept a Keepsake gift.
