Change someone's role or remove them

Give someone in your Keepsake project a different role, such as Writer or Admin, or remove them from the project.

You can let someone do more in your project, or less, by changing their role. You can also remove them. Owners and admins can do this for anyone except the owner. If you're a writer or viewer, ask the project owner.

Open People & access

In the project, open the Settings tab, then choose People & access.

Choose the person

Choose the person's name. Their details open, with their role under Role.

Pick the new role

Choose Change, then pick Viewer, Writer or Admin. A box shows what they could do with the new role, marking what's New and what's Removed.

Save it

Choose the button that names the change, such as Make Margaret a Writer. You'll see Saved.

They get a notification in Keepsake saying their role has changed. To compare the roles, see Roles and what each person can do.

To make someone the owner, see Hand a project over to someone.

Step down as an admin

If you're an admin, you can give yourself a smaller role. Choose your own name in People & access, choose Change, pick the role, then choose Make me a Writer or Make me a Viewer. You'll be asked to confirm, because only the owner or another admin can change it back.

In People & access, choose the person's name.

Remove them

Choose Remove access.

Confirm

Choose Remove access again to confirm. They leave the list.

When you remove someone:

  • They can't open the project any more.
  • The stories they wrote stay in the project.
  • We send them an email to say they've been removed.
  • You can invite them again later: see Invite people to a project.

To cancel an invitation someone hasn't accepted yet, see Check, resend or cancel an invitation.

If something's not right

  • There's no Change button. You can't change the owner's role. To make someone else the owner, see Hand a project over to someone.
  • The invitation says Expired. Renew the invitation first, then change its role.
  • It says it couldn't change their role. Check your connection, then try again.
