Accept a Keepsake gift

Someone has shared their Keepsake plan with you. Accept the gift from the email, set up your account and start writing your own books.

Updated

If someone gave you Keepsake, they've shared their Keepsake Pro plan with you. You get your own account and can start your own books, at no cost to you, for as long as they keep their plan. This shows you how to accept the gift from the email.

What the gift includes

In Keepsake, the gift shows as a Keepsake membership, shared with the person who gave it. It includes:

  • Your own account, with your own projects. They're private to you and the people you invite.
  • All of Keepsake Pro: start as many books as you like, invite family to write with you, and get help from the ghostwriter.
  • Shared print credits: you share the plan's print credits, so either of you can use one to print a book. See How print credits work.

Accept the gift

1

Open the email

Find the email from Keepsake that says someone has gifted you a Keepsake subscription. Choose Accept Your Gift.

2

Open your gift

Choose Open your gift to see what's included and any note from the person who gave it.

3

Accept it

Choose Accept gift.

4

Create your account or sign in

If you're new to Keepsake, enter your name and choose a password, then choose Create my account. The email is the one the gift was sent to. If you already have an account, enter your password and choose Sign in and accept.

5

Get started

New accounts see a short welcome and tour, then Choose how you'll appear, where you can add a photo of yourself or choose Skip for now.

Your first book

The person who gave you the gift may have set up a book for you already. If they did, you'll see it at the end. Choose the button that names it, such as Open Grandad's Story, or Go to my bookshelf if there's more than one.

Depending on what they chose, you're the book's owner and they stay on as an admin, or you join as an admin and they stay the owner.

If there's no book waiting, choose Start my project to set one up now, or I'll look around first. To start one later, see Start a project.

If you already pay for Keepsake

If you already have a plan or a free trial, you'll see You already have a Keepsake plan. Choose one, then choose Continue:

  • Use their gift (it names them, such as Use Margaret's gift): we end your free trial without charging you, or cancel your plan and refund the days you haven't used.
  • Keep my own plan: your plan carries on as it is, and we let the person who gave the gift know.

If the gift ends

The gift lasts while the other person's plan is active. If they stop sharing it or their plan ends, you keep your account and your projects, but you can't keep writing.

In Settings > Sharing, you'll see what happened. To keep writing, start your own plan with the button there, such as Start your free trial or Subscribe, or ask them to start their plan again. If their last payment didn't go through, you can write again once they've sorted it out. See Primary and shared plans.

If you'd rather not accept

On the gift page, choose Decline gift, then choose Decline gift again to confirm. The person who gave it sees that you declined, and the link stops working. They can send a new one.

If something's not right

  • It says This gift link has expired. Ask the person who gave it to send a new one.
  • It says the gift went to a different email. You're signed in with another account. Choose Switch account to sign in or create an account with the email the gift was sent to. Or ask them to send the gift to the email you use.
  • It says This gift was withdrawn. The person who gave it cancelled it. Ask them if you think that's a mistake.
  • It says You've already accepted this gift. Sign in, and it's waiting in your Keepsake.
  • It says We can't find this invitation. The link may be incomplete. Open it from the email again.

Still stuck? Email support@keepsakeproject.co and include:

  • The email address the gift was sent to
  • The name of the person who gave it
  • A screenshot or photo of what you see
