Join a project you've been invited to
Accept an invitation to a Keepsake project from the email, create your account or sign in, and start reading or writing your family's stories.
Updated
When someone invites you to their Keepsake project, you get an email with a link. Accepting it lets you read the family's stories, and add your own if they asked you to write. Joining is free. You can write while the project owner's plan is active.
What you were asked to do
The invitation says how you'll join. Each role lets you do something different.
| You'll join as | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Viewer | Read the stories as the family adds them |
| Writer | Add your own stories and photos |
| Admin | Add stories and help run the project |
To see everything each role can do, see Roles and what each person can do.
Accept the invitation
Open the email
Find the email from Keepsake that says someone invited you to join their project. Choose Accept Invitation.
Check the invitation
The page shows who invited you, the project, any note they wrote and how you'll join. Choose Join the project.
What happens next depends on whether you already use Keepsake.
If you're new to Keepsake
Create your account
Under Create your account, enter your First name and Last name. The email is the one the invitation was sent to, and it can't be changed here.
Choose a password
Enter a password that meets everything in the list, then type it again in Confirm password.
Finish
Choose Create my account. When it's ready, choose Let's begin.
Take the short tour
A short tour shows how Keepsake works. Choose Next to go through it, or Skip the tour.
Optional: add a photo of yourself
Under Choose how you'll appear, add a photo so the family knows it's you, then choose Continue. Or choose Skip for now.
The project opens, ready for you.
If you already have a Keepsake account
Sign in
If you're not signed in, enter your password under Welcome back and choose Sign in and join. If you're already signed in, this step is skipped.
Open the project
You'll see You've joined with the project's name. Choose Open the project.
If you're signed in, the invitation also shows in your notifications. Choose Join project there to accept it.
If you'd rather not join
On the invitation page, choose Decline invitation, then choose Decline invitation again to confirm. The person who invited you sees that you declined, and the link stops working. They can invite you again later.
If something's not right
- You can't find the email. Look in your junk or spam folder, and search for Keepsake. If it isn't there, ask the person who invited you to send it again. Owners and admins can resend it from People & access.
- It says This invitation has expired. Ask the person who invited you to send a new one.
- It says the invitation went to a different email. You're signed in with another account. Choose Switch account to sign in or create an account with the email the invitation was sent to. Or ask them to invite the email you use.
- It says This invitation was withdrawn. The person who invited you cancelled it. Ask them if you'd still like to join.
- It says You've already joined. Sign in, and the project is on your Keepsake home. If you forgot your password, see Sign in.
- It says We can't find this invitation. The link may be incomplete. Open it from the email again.
